What it is

Handmade right here at The Wild Carrot Farmstead (WCF), our Cedarwood & Oak Moss bar begins with the foundation of our traditional farmhouse soap: fresh goat milk, grass-fed and finished tallow, and simple oils transformed into real soap through traditional saponification.

For this earthy, woodsy bar, we take that farmhouse foundation and pair it with the warm, familiar scent of cedarwood and the deep, green character of oak moss.

Think old cedar chests, moss-covered trees, weathered cabins, and the cool, damp earth beneath a forest canopy. It’s clean without smelling soapy, woodsy without being sharp, and wonderfully reminiscent of the outdoors.

The goat milk is fresh and hand-milked from our doe queens, while the tallow is rendered here on the farm. Together, they create the rich, creamy lather and comforting feel that make traditional milk-and-tallow soaps so special.

A little woodland nostalgia, a little old-fashioned farmhouse, and a whole lot of the great outdoors.

The extras

Cedarwood

Cedarwood has been appreciated for generations, not only for its distinctive fragrance but also for its place in traditional woodworking, homemaking, and aromatic preparations.

Its warm, dry, slightly resinous aroma is immediately recognizable, bringing to mind cedar-lined closets, old timber barns, freshly cut wood, and cabins tucked into the trees.

Cedar has long been used for chests and storage because of its naturally aromatic wood, making its fragrance especially nostalgic for those who grew up around old-fashioned homes and handmade furniture.

In this bar, cedarwood provides the warm, woody foundation that gives the fragrance its familiar, comforting character.

It’s simple, rustic, and wonderfully timeless.

Oak Moss

Despite its name, oak moss isn’t actually a moss at all.

It’s a lichen, traditionally known as Evernia prunastri, that grows on the bark and branches of trees, particularly oaks.

Oak moss has a long history in traditional perfumery, where its earthy, green, slightly damp aroma has been used to give fragrances depth and a connection to the natural world.

Its scent is reminiscent of shaded woodland floors, old-growth forests, damp bark, and the quiet greenery beneath towering trees.

In our Cedarwood & Oak Moss bar, the oak moss fragrance brings that deep, forest-like character, balancing the warmer cedarwood notes with something cooler, greener, and a little more mysterious.

It’s the scent of stepping off the beaten path and into the woods.

A Little Piece of the Forest

What makes this combination so special is how naturally the two fragrances belong together.

Cedarwood brings warmth, familiarity, and the comforting scent of aged timber.

Oak moss brings the green, earthy character of a forest after the rain.

Together, they create a fragrance that feels rugged but refined, fresh but grounded, and unmistakably connected to the outdoors.

No sugary sweetness or overpowering perfume. Just a beautifully woodsy fragrance inspired by the places where trees grow old and the ground stays soft beneath your feet.

The kind of scent that makes you think of flannel shirts, old cabins, woodland walks, and coming home with a little dirt on your boots.

About goat milk soap

Goat milk soap is a time-honored style of soap made through saponification—the traditional process of combining fats and oils with lye to create real soap.

Using fresh goat milk adds natural fats and sugars to the recipe, helping create the creamy, luxurious lather goat milk soap is known for.

Goat milk naturally contains both saturated and unsaturated fats, making it especially well suited to traditional soapmaking.

It also naturally contains lactic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid found in milk. While finished soap is a rinse-off product, goat milk remains a beloved ingredient for people who prefer traditional milk-based soaps.

We don’t use powdered goat milk or a premade soap base. We milk our own goats and incorporate that fresh milk into our soapmaking process.

It’s one of the many ways we keep our soap connected to the animals and land that sustain our farmstead.

Why tallow?

Tallow has been used in farmhouse soapmaking for generations—and for good reason.

It helps create a hard, long-lasting bar with a creamy, stable lather.

Ours comes from grass-fed and finished animals and is carefully rendered here at the farm, allowing us to know exactly where one of the most important ingredients in our soap comes from.

For us, using farm fat is also part of honoring the whole animal and wasting as little as possible.

We believe traditional ingredients still have a place in modern skincare, especially when they’re sourced and prepared with care.

How to use

Lather between wet hands or onto a washcloth, then cleanse the hands or body as desired. Rinse well.

Follow with your favorite WCF balm or moisturizer if desired.

Care & storage

Traditional handmade soap lasts longest when it can dry completely between uses.

Keep your bar on a well-draining soap dish and avoid allowing it to sit in standing water. Allowing plenty of airflow between uses will help extend the life of your bar.

The Wild Carrot Farmstead Promise

We believe some of the best things are still made slowly, with ingredients that have a story and traditions worth carrying forward.

We raise the animals.

We milk the goats.

We render the fat.

We work with real ingredients.

And we make every batch by hand.

Our Cedarwood & Oak Moss Goat Milk + Farm Fat Soap is a little tribute to the quiet beauty of the woods—the towering trees, the moss-covered branches, the smell of weathered timber, and the simple pleasure of being surrounded by nature.

It’s an old-fashioned farmhouse bar with a little woodland soul.

Rooted in the land. Inspired by the woods. Made by hand.
