What it is

Handmade right here at The Wild Carrot Farmstead (WCF), our Elderflower Blossom & Plum bar begins with the foundation of our traditional farmhouse soap: fresh goat milk, grass-fed and finished tallow, and simple oils transformed into real soap through traditional saponification.

For this bar, we take that farmhouse base a step further with elderflower blossom-infused castor oil, plum oil, and a plum decoction, bringing together ingredients from the garden, orchard, and farm in one beautifully simple bar.

The goat milk is fresh and hand-milked from our doe queens, while the tallow is rendered here on the farm. Together, they create the rich, creamy lather and comforting feel that make old-fashioned milk-and-tallow soaps so special.

No dyes. No synthetic fragrance. No preservatives. Just a thoughtfully crafted botanical farmhouse soap made in small batches by our hands.

The botanicals

Elderflower Blossom

Elderflower has a long history of use in traditional herbal preparations and is one of the botanicals we love working with here at WCF. For this soap, elderflower blossoms are infused into castor oil before being incorporated into the batch.

Castor oil itself is especially valued in soapmaking for the dense, creamy lather it helps create.

Plum

This bar incorporates plum in two different ways: plum oil and a plum decoction.

Plum oil brings its naturally rich fatty-acid profile to the soapmaking oils, while the decoction allows us to incorporate the fruit into the water phase of the recipe. It’s one of those small-batch details that makes this bar distinctly ours.

About goat milk soap

Goat milk soap is a time-honored style of soap made through saponification—the traditional process of combining fats and oils with lye to create real soap.

Using fresh goat milk adds natural fats and sugars to the recipe, helping create the creamy, luxurious lather goat milk soap is known for.

Goat milk naturally contains both saturated and unsaturated fats, making it especially well suited to traditional soapmaking.

It also naturally contains lactic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid found in milk. While finished soap is a rinse-off product, goat milk remains a beloved ingredient for people who prefer simple, traditional cleansing products.

Why tallow?

Tallow has been used in farmhouse soapmaking for generations—and for good reason.

It helps create a hard, long-lasting bar with a creamy, stable lather. Ours comes from grass-fed and finished animals and is carefully rendered here at the farm, allowing us to know exactly where one of the most important ingredients in our soap comes from.

For us, using farm fat is also part of honoring the whole animal and wasting as little as possible.

How to use

Lather between wet hands or onto a washcloth, then cleanse the face or body as desired. Rinse well.

Follow with your favorite WCF balm or moisturizer if desired.

Care & storage

Traditional handmade soap lasts longest when it can dry completely between uses.

Keep your bar on a well-draining soap dish and avoid allowing it to sit in standing water. Allowing plenty of airflow between uses will help extend the life of your bar.

The Wild Carrot Farmstead Promise

We believe some of the best things are still made slowly.

We raise the animals.
We milk the goats.
We render the fat.
We grow and gather botanicals.
We make the infusions.
And then we turn those ingredients into something useful for your home.

Our Elderflower Blossom & Plum Goat Milk + Farm Fat Soap is another expression of what WCF is all about: simple ingredients, traditional skills, whole-plant preparations, responsible use of the animals that provide for us, and small-batch goods made from as close to the source as we can get.
