What it is

Handmade right here at The Wild Carrot Farmstead (WCF), our Southern Gothic bar begins with the foundation of our traditional farmhouse soap: fresh goat milk, grass-fed and finished tallow, and simple oils transformed into real soap through traditional saponification.

For this deeply earthy, floral, and mysterious bar, we take that farmhouse foundation and pair it with the dark elegance of black magnolia and the warm, smoky character of patchouli.

Think Southern magnolias after sundown, forgotten gardens, old woods, damp earth, and a little smoke drifting through the trees. It’s floral without being overly sweet, woodsy without being overpowering, and just a little unconventional.

The goat milk is fresh and hand-milked from our doe queens, while the tallow is rendered here on the farm. Together, they create the rich, creamy lather and comforting feel that make traditional milk-and-tallow soaps so special.

A little Southern mystery, a little wildwood romance, and entirely farmhouse made.

The extras

Black Magnolia

Magnolias have long been associated with the American South, where their enormous blossoms and glossy leaves have become symbols of old gardens, warm evenings, and enduring beauty.

Black magnolia takes that familiar floral character somewhere a little darker.

Rather than a bright, sugary floral, this fragrance brings a deeper, moodier interpretation of magnolia blossoms. It’s elegant, slightly mysterious, and beautifully suited to those who enjoy floral scents with a little more character.

We love how it brings a touch of old Southern charm to an otherwise rustic farmhouse bar.

Patchouli

Patchouli has a long history in perfumery, beloved for its distinctive earthy, woody, and slightly sweet aroma.

In this bar, that familiar patchouli character takes on a smokier personality.

Warm, grounding, and reminiscent of forest floors, weathered wood, and the lingering scent of a distant fire, patchouli smoke gives this soap its wildwood soul.

It balances the floral character of black magnolia, creating a fragrance that feels both rugged and romantic.

The Southern Gothic Inspiration

There’s something undeniably beautiful about the darker side of the Southern landscape.

Ancient magnolia trees standing beside weathered porches. Vines reclaiming forgotten fences. Moss hanging from branches, old houses tucked deep into the countryside, and the smell of woodsmoke settling over the land after sunset.

It’s a beauty that isn’t perfectly polished. It’s wild, weathered, romantic, and full of history.

That’s the feeling we wanted to capture with Southern Gothic.

Black magnolia brings the softness of an old Southern garden, while patchouli smoke brings the depth of the woods beyond it.

Together, they create something that isn’t quite a traditional floral and isn’t quite a typical woodsy soap.

It’s moody, nostalgic, and wonderfully unexpected.

A fragrance for the old souls, the wild hearts, and those who find beauty in things a little weathered and wonderfully strange.

About goat milk soap

Goat milk soap is a time-honored style of soap made through saponification—the traditional process of combining fats and oils with lye to create real soap.

Using fresh goat milk adds natural fats and sugars to the recipe, helping create the creamy, luxurious lather goat milk soap is known for.

Goat milk naturally contains both saturated and unsaturated fats, making it especially well suited to traditional soapmaking.

It also naturally contains lactic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid found in milk. While finished soap is a rinse-off product, goat milk remains a beloved ingredient for people who prefer traditional milk-based soaps.

We don’t use powdered goat milk or a premade soap base. We milk our own goats and incorporate that fresh milk into our soapmaking process.

It’s one of the many ways we keep our soap connected to the animals and land that sustain our farmstead.

Why tallow?

Tallow has been used in farmhouse soapmaking for generations—and for good reason.

It helps create a hard, long-lasting bar with a creamy, stable lather.

Ours comes from grass-fed and finished animals and is carefully rendered here at the farm, allowing us to know exactly where one of the most important ingredients in our soap comes from.

For us, using farm fat is also part of honoring the whole animal and wasting as little as possible.

We believe traditional ingredients still have a place in modern skincare, especially when they’re sourced and prepared with care.

How to use

Lather between wet hands or onto a washcloth, then cleanse the hands or body as desired. Rinse well.

Follow with your favorite WCF balm or moisturizer if desired.

Care & storage

Traditional handmade soap lasts longest when it can dry completely between uses.

Keep your bar on a well-draining soap dish and avoid allowing it to sit in standing water. Allowing plenty of airflow between uses will help extend the life of your bar.

The Wild Carrot Farmstead Promise

We believe some of the best things are still made slowly, with ingredients that have a story and traditions worth carrying forward.

We raise the animals.

We milk the goats.

We render the fat.

We work with real ingredients.

And we make every batch by hand.

Our Southern Gothic Goat Milk + Farm Fat Soap is a tribute to the untamed beauty of the South—where magnolias bloom beside forgotten fences, old trees guard weathered homesteads, and the evening air carries the faintest hint of smoke.

It’s a little dark, a little romantic, and deeply rooted in the beauty of things that have stood the test of time.

Old-fashioned farmhouse soapmaking with a Southern gothic soul.

Rooted in tradition. Wrapped in mystery. Made a little wild.
